  1. This technically isn't a "passing" story, other than I feel it is worth passing along:

I was in the foundations section of my local Dillard's last night, browsing the slips, and a sales lady asked me if I worked there.

I guess I was taken aback, as she clearly worked there, but she admitted that the reason she asked is because she'd seen me in the store several times.

I'll admit--when I left the house, I might have been worried that I was overdressed for a Friday evening at the mall (electric blue satin blouse, sleek side-zip dress slacks) but now even that concern has evaporated.

    1. Take that as a compliment, Monique, and bask in the positivity.

I've commented often that, hard as I try, I don't seem to pass. But that doesn't stop me from going out dressed. Last Friday I went to Costco, Aldi and Harris-Teeter after acupuncture. My hair was looking very pretty, so I left it long. My acupuncturist, who is used to seeing me in women's clothing, admired my hair. (Thanks, Mom!) I wore Mary Janes, wide legged women's slacks, and a very pretty top that helped display my B-cup breasts. I had on a women's coat, which I did not zip up, and in two of the stores I took it off. As I said, my long hair was looking very pretty. I wore one of my "Girly" masks -- black with a big red pair of lips. While I didn't use any makeup except some mascara, I did trim and shape my brows and used some clear gel to maintain the shape. I used my "quiet" voice.

Here's the scorecard: Costco, two Ma'ams and one Sir. Aldi, one sir and a "Your hair is really pretty" from a male cashier. That doesn't happen very often. Harris-Teeter, one Ma'am and two sirs and an interesting nod from the security cop on the way out. I think when I appear femme in a store that hustles customers out much of my gendering is, "the way I appear" -- long hair, breasts = Ma'am. In slower environments I'm quickly "made" but the clerks are always polite and use the pronouns appropriate for the way I'm dressed. All that aside, "Ma'am" is still music to my ears!

    1. Do it, Hon' I have a similar dress I wear around the house often. It's a little too short for this senior citizen to wear out, but it's lots of fun. I did wear it to an acupuncture appointment last summer -- it was raining and I wore my raincoat over it. I didn't go shopping afterward but I went home not wearing the coat. Ooooooo how "brave" of me! Ha! Makes me dream about not having a buffalo-sized body and wear off the rack misses dresses like Stana does!

  3. One of the best things about the 70's -- men's hair tyles were pretty uni-sex, which made a young crossdresser's life that much easier!

    2. that hairstyle is/was known as the "purdey" in the uk, as worn by the character of that name played by joanna lumley in "the new avengers" tv series - that began the same year that dorothy hamill (who i confess to not having heard of before now) came to prominence in the olympics
