Thursday, June 18, 2009 is not equal to

For some reason, is not the same as Entering the URL without "www." should get you here, but it does not.

I am trying to solve this technical difficulty, but have been unsuccessful so far. So don't use the shortcut until I sort this thing out.

  1. Staci,

This is what I found on your domain name DNS listing: 1A

This in theory should allow anyone just using the URL to go right to your site. They don't appear to have the www listed, whihc may be a hidden default.

My technique is to use two records in your DNS table:

    1. an "A" record pointing your domain to the IP address of your server. i.e. A - this should allow you to just type in the domain and go right to the site.

    2. set up a "CNAME" record pointing to your domain. i.e. CNAME - this supports the www.URL

One other thing to look at would be the hosting server, which for the blog site.

I also just noticed that your domain information does not seem to be propogating properly. Verio and dotster do not have your records in ther "whois" database, while godaddy and do have your records.

In any event, looks to be who needs to fix this. I hope this helps!

BTW: I absolutely loved hearing about your trip to New York. It looks like you had a fabulous time!

  2. Linda --- Thank you for the information. Hopefully, I will be able to fix the problem using what you gave me.

And, yes, I had a fab time in NYC.

  3. I forgot to mention - that Ginkomedia site I found is really neat! It allows you to do rich media messaging to pretty much anyone. I was trying to figure out how I could use it for my blog which I haven't touched in months and months . . . ;-(

When I looked into your domain problem I took the approach of doing an nslookup command for both and This is what I got:

    Non-authoritative answer:

    Non-authoritative answer:

I believe that the problem is that is an alias of the domain, i.e., there is a cname DNS record in the DNS that makes DNS think that and are the same machine.

When I did a whois command on the domain at this is what I found:

This tells me that the owner of this domain opted not to share information publicly from a whois query. It appears that the domain was registered in June 2008. Is that when you registered it? The address information being in Portugal is troubling but it could be that is located in Portugal.

I hope this helps. It has been a while since I had to use these skills.
