Young Stana

I do not recall ever wishing I was a girl. I just wanted to do the things that girls did, for example, act like a girl, play like a girl, dress like a girl, etc.

Acting like a girl was easy because I did not have to act. I acted like a girl naturally. And the bullies could not convince me to act otherwise.

Playing like a girl was easy too because I had a sister who was happy to have a playmate for girl play.

Dressing like a girl came later, but once I found the courage to dress like a girl, I was all in.

So I did not wish to be a girl because I was already living as a girl. Yes, I was a boy, but I did not let that stop me from being the best girl I could be.

  1. Thank you for putting it to concisely. We are who we are, and the sooner we realize it, the sooner we can live it.

  3. One of my earliest playmates when I was 4 was a (another) girl. We had tons of fun together doing all sorts of "girl" things like making mud pies and playing house. Sometimes quite literally; We "broke into"(nobody locked their doors back 55 yrs ago) a neighbors house once and washed the dishes:) When I was 9 or so, a male friends younger Sister had this pink stuffed elephant toy that for some reason(hmmm,,) I developed a strong maternal attachment to, even though I didnt quite yet understand how human babies were made,.

  4. I love the picture. That's my childhood, in the late 60s in Germany. I would have worn a colorful housewife's apron boroughed from my mother's closet. I even owned a white old-style German nurse's apron, which I wore whenever possible. My mother was happy with me doing all the typical girl chores which my sister efficiently avoided. Sometimes I opted for a wrap around apron or overall, which gave me the feeling of wearing a dress, in particular when worn over shorts. I was fond playing with Barbie universe dolls which technically belonged to my sister. We had Barbie, Skipper, Tutti, and Ricky (no Ken). Ricky was my favorite. He would regularly wear a skirt or dress, thus being the avatar for my own dreams.
