Dear Stana: Differentiate "femulate" and "crossdress"

Dear Stana,

I'm very curious at the the distinction between "femulate" and "crossdress" or any other permutation of gender dysphoria.

Miss Gina

Hi Gina,

When I started my blog back in February 2007, I needed a name for it and created the word "femulate" out of thin air. I defined "femulate" as "to imitate, copy, or try to be like a female."

"Femulate" fine tunes the term "crossdress." Whereas "crossdress" refers to anyone who dons clothing not normally associated with their birth gender, "femulate" refers to those of us who go out in public and make a great effort to look, move, speak, and act as a female, with the ultimate goal of passing or at least being tolerated because we are trying our best to emulate females, not be female characatures.

Best Wishes,

Stana

  1. And I for one, whom definitely likes to femulate, agree this is a good word. It is empowering, gives credence to those who do it, and compliments the gender we are being reflective of.

And thank you for giving value to the word "Crossdress". Though dated and poorly used, it is a fact and shouldn't be thought of as a anything more then the act of wearing clothing considered to be only for that which is your opposite in sex.

No a surprise since the muse came to you to coin the term.

  3. what you said, Stana.

Femulate seeks to honor women, and femininity.

    Cross-dressing is frequently a parody.

  5. STANA,

GREAT WORK ---FEMULATING IS ON A FAR HIGHER PLATEAU THAN OTHER PREVIOUSLY USED TERMS - TRANSVESTITE, CROSS-DRESSER ETC. IT HONORS WOMEN AND EXPRESSES PART OF THE INNER CORE OF THE FEMULATOR. IT IS NOT A MERE MASK IT IS A TRUE WOMENLY FEELING oF FEMININTY IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO SORT OUT THE DIFFERENCE AND SEE THE ESCALATION-TRANSITION FROM ONE TO THE OTHER. THANKS FOR LEADING THE WAY.
