  3. I saw the play a couple years ago. Who knew an Elvis Impersonator could morph into a very good drag queen? I was surprised to see such a "feel good" play from Matthew Lopez, who wrote the stunning "The Whipping Man. Check him out on Wikipedia and you'll see he has a film version of "Legend..." and a musical of "Some Like it Hot" coming up. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Lopez_(playwright)

  4. Curious! Way back when, Naturalizers were my favs among Mom's shoes. Does this mean I'm NOT what I'm pretty darn sure that I am? Holy mind-bender, Batman!

  5. Well, they're not exactly the Naturalizers of the past - although there are always styles that qualify. I, unfortunately am a 1/2 size and a wide width but can sometimes find a decent and somewhat stylish fit in Naturalizer's 27 Edit brand such as the "Abilyn" https://www.naturalizer.com/product/womens-27-edit-abilyn-3019126/gold-leather-ec0208584 and the "Alanna". I also very much like the "Leah" ankle strap sandal in the normal Naturalizer line. It's comfortable and has appeared under various other names with slight changes of detail. Yes, the heel could be taller. Yes, the toe strap could be thinner but hey, it fits!

My first "real" pair of women's shoes were Naturalizers! I'd been trying on my mom's shoes for years, but they never fit well, and by the time I was 12, were way too small for me. My mom, who supported my interests off and on, took pity and brought me to a big downtown department store where she once had worked. I think she may have known some of the sales ladies there and arranged it ahead of time. It was the early summer of 1969. I was fitted for a pair of ladies' shoes and ended up with navy blue Naturalizers with a rounded toe and 2-3/4" somewhat chunky, stacked wood heel, size 8-1/2. They were fine "training heels" and quite comfortable. They lasted a couple of years before I needed to move up to larger sizes. They were quite worn out by the time I finally retired them! Admittedly, I've never found any Naturalizer styles I thought were appealing since then, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for them because they were, after all, my first love.

That whole shopping trip must have been amusing for the SAs at the store since I came in with Mom wearing pantyhose, earrings, nail polish and lipstick as well as my usual 12 year old boy clothes.
