a puzzle

(updated below)

What do you call a male who believes she is a female, but is happy living in her male body?

She has no interest in taking hormones or having surgery to change her male body into an approximation of a female body.

She lives part-time as a male and part-time as a female, but prefers living as a female. If the circumstances of her marriage and employment were different, she would live full-time as a female.

What do you call such a person?

UPDATE: I was describing myself when I wrote this post. I was curious how other people would label someone like me, so that if someone asked, I could tell them what I am.

Since there was no real consensus, I will just tell them that I am "me."

  1. I would call that person by whatever label, pronoun or form of address that the person asks me to use when addressed by me.

  2. Are they truly happy living in their male body or are they just "settling" due to circumstances. If it's the latter, I'd call such person a Transsexual.

  4. I would call that person...me. I like the term transgenderqueer. Its a person revolutionizing what it means to internally identify as a woman. and how that is expressed.

I thought i commented earlier...but i dont see my comment so maybe i didnt.

Anywhoo. This is my first comment. I've read for awhile, and I love the blog

  8. When dressed as a male the person would be a male and when dressed as a woman then she is a woman.

  9. How we define ourselves is at least as important as how others define us. As gender variance has such a huge spectrum we are as "people" prone to all sorts of gray areas in our lives. Isay celebrate Gray!!

  12. I was going to say "Staci" but reading the other comments it's not that simple is it?

  13. You could be "in process" towards an unknown settling point, or, really settled where you want to be. Things change as we discover our deeper, fuller, truer selves... I know I am.
Perhaps "Transgender" as between TV and TS, as a rough guide. But we know it to be some much more complicated than that!

  14. Um...That would be me.

But, you raise an interesting question. I can think of a couple of books written by therapists where that person would be deemed a TS. Others would consider the person a crossdresser. I just prefer transgender....but....really....if the circumstances (job/marriage) were different, there would be absolutely no question about me.
