no kidding

I received an e-mail yesterday from a regular reader of this blog. She mentioned that she enjoys the humorous images I create and display here, but when she showed one recent image to a friend of hers, the friend called it "k1dd1e p0rn."

To tell you the truth, I did not see it, but "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." So with that, I deleted all the images on this blog that contained children and in the future, I will not display any image here that depicts a child.

And so it goes.

  1. No, I really don't see what the problem was. I don't know if there's a different interpretation in the US, but certainly in the UK no picture which I have seen on your blog fits into any definition of 'ki*d*e p**n' I've ever known. I used to work in the Vulnerable People Protection Unit for a council in England, which meant we worked closely with law enforcement to do with child abuse, and none of your images contravene the law on any level. However, I suppose better safe than sorry. Still a fan of your terrific blog.

  2. Jayne --- Thank you for your support, but yes, it's all a matter of "better safe than sorry." I don't want Blogger to shut me down because of somebody's interpretation/misinterpretation.

  3. That's dumb. It's a common fantasy to have been dressed up when young. Maybe I could make the case for forcing a child to dress up as child abuse, but certainly not porn.

Porn is also in the eye of the beholder. If I had a foot fetish (pretty common) and read a detailed description of a woman's foot, I'd be excited and consider it porn. If I didn't, I'd consider it dull.

I worry about the person who thought that was "porn".

  5. Staci,

Flickr and YouTube are full of photos or videos of young boys in girls' clothes - are they or their parents guilty of "kiddie porn"? Surely not.

Besides I'd bet that half the male population has gone out (in their childhood) on Halloween cross-dressed one time or another. Not only isn't it "kiddie porn" to depict cross-dressed behavior by kids, but such behavior on many occasions isn't even an aberration.

It can't be pornographic because it's only gender-play, not sex-play. Most folks don't make a clear conceptual distinction between sex and gender and this can lead to some really strange ideas. This is only my opinion, of course.

  6. I'm all for not offending people, but I think the PC Police may have been overrun by fascists. I've never been the least bit offended by anything here. Material should be taken in the vein intended by the writer.

Staci, you have a wonderful blog. Don't feel compelled to censor yourself.

  8. Staci, I have never seen anything on your blog that could be considered pornograpic. I understand why you removed the pictures and support your decision to do so.

  10. Staci, It is sad that it comes to something like this. Even sadder when the photo that was called K.P. was completely harmless and simply adorable. It is a dream of many to have a mother willing to take their son out for a shopping trip like that. Even better was the sign, "Boys' Dresses", implying that they were in a socially acceptable situtation.

In spite of that, I don't regret alerting you on the photo of the boy sitting on his dad's knee with his hand into the dad's lap. It too was an innocent photo and I don't question your intent, but it left the door open for someone to judge you [and judge the TG community in general] poorly.

I love your blog and read it every day. I would hate to see this taken away by some hate filled do-gooder...

Keep up the great writing and positive spirit.

  11. Lynn --- The "Boy's Dresses" image is one of my favorites and it was the last one I deleted.

To tell you the truth, I was so unhappy about deleting the images that I almost pulled the plug on the whole blog. But "cooler heads prevailed" and I am still blogging away today.

Again, thank you for your support.
