femulated in the past

This unusual 1935 image of a femulator is a studio photograph taken by "Unity Studio - Theatrical Photographer -168 W. 46th St., N.Y. - Bryant 7279."

This image is "unusual" because she went to all the expense of getting photographed professionally, but does not wear a wig to complete the femulation. Go figure!

As usual, click on the image to enlarge it.

  1. Hmmm.. Stacy. I wonder if it could have something to do with the legal requirement for theatrical female impersonators to have to reveal their true gender at the end of a performance...

That was certainly the law over here in the UK, and many countries in Europe.

Can't off the top of my head think why such a photo might be needed, but....

    ???

  2. Chrissie --- I don't know if there was a similar law in the US. If anyone knows, please chime in.
