Losing Leg Hair

My skirt's not too short – my legs are too long!

I avoid shaving my legs with a razor blade and shaving cream or gel because it is too time-consuming. My legs are too long... 36 inches each to be exact and it takes forever.

Early on, I discovered the wonderful world of chemicals. Nair and Veet were my hair removing chemicals of choice. They did the job quickly and thoroughly. And after using them for over four decades, they permanently removed a lot of my leg hair. As a result, using chemicals now is overkill.

So every morning, I attack the leg hairs that toughed it out. After I shave my face and neck with a top-of-the-line Norelco rotary head electric razor, I do a portion of my legs. One day, I will shave my knees, the next day, my calves, the next day, my thighs, the next day... well, you get the idea. As a result, when I get all dolled up to go out en femme, a quick touch-up with my Norelco is all I need to be femininely smooth.

By the way, I use the same routine to keep my arms, shoulders and breasts hair-free.

  1. One way to minimize body hair is to go on estrogen. I have been on spironolactone and estrodiol valerate for over 7 years. My body hair has become fine and I don't have to shave my legs very often. I also now have a bra size of 40DD.

  2. You're probably aware that Yankee great Mickey Mantle is Kelly Mantle's uncle.

    3. If Meg did not beat me to the punch I would have noted the Mickey/Kelly Mantle connection.
As a kid my hero was the great Mickey Mantle. I wanted to be like him. I could hit OK but I ran slow as molasses and had a noodle for an arm. I sat on his lap in a restaurant in 1957. I wish I still had the menu he signed for me.
For tonight I hope my beloved Yankees beat the hated Red Sox.

  3. Actually you can try epilating. My leg hairs used to be thick and curly, after repeat epilating the regrowths become finer over time. 🙂

    1. Epilation is quick, does not require strange smelling cream, and avoids stubble. It's easy to do at home and does not cost anything (after you have bought the machine).
If your legs are very hairy, follow this procedure: Before using the epilator for the first time, shave your legs. Then use the epilator. For the first few days, epilate morning and night. Then you can reduce the frequency to what suits you.
Epilating pulls most hairs out from the roots, so that new hairs have to grow from beneath the surface of the skin. These don't appear for a day or two. The first appearance of these hairs are fine hairs that you can't see, but which the epilator will remove. The hairs don't all grow at the same speed. Hairs that grow most vigorously will be removed most frequently and their regrowth will weaken.
You can feel a little tingle as each hair is removed, but this is not painful unless a lot of hairs are removed at the same time. Hence the above advice.
But it is important to read the instructions that come with the epilator to ensure that you do not allow the machine to trap loose skin. Otherwise they may be blood and tears. So it should go without saying that there are parts of your body for which an epilator is not suitable.

  4. I go to a local beauty salon for waxing at least four times each year. The ladies are efficient and pleasant and I'm always treated like a lady. Hair growth is now much less. The last time, I had on a swimsuit as underwear and an almost all over epilation was not too expensive, though the near bikini waxing part was a little painful.

  5. Thanks for the tip to shave a little area each day. Now if I can become that organized. The reason that shaving my legs with a blade took me too much time is that I waited long enough between shaves that the hairs clogged the blade. Then I discovered that the blade unclogs easily if I run the razor backwards over the just shaved area. It is also quicker to start at the top of my leg and work down toward my feet. I can now shave a leg or arm with fairly long hairs almost as fast as a leg or arm with just a little stubble.

    1. I find the old fashioned safety razor is much less likely to clog than the multi-blade cartridge razor. Besides the blades are MUCH cheaper (100 blades for about $10.00.)

  6. I find a wet razor and ordinary bath soap works well when lazing in the bath

  7. I have a lady lawyer friend who is REQUIRED BY THE JUDGE to wear skirts instead of pants to court. As a 'f-u' protest to the judiciary , she neglects to shave her legs, so that there are a multitude of gnarly, twisted, curly hairs sticking through the weave of her stockings. Having witnessed this image, it is permanently burned into my brain. ICK! ICK! ICK! Make it go away! Velma
