laurence-anyways---film-Canada---2012

Laurence Anyways is a 2012 Canadian film that tells the story of impossible love between a man and a woman after the man decided to have a sex change, according to IMDB.

The film competed in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival where Suzanne Clément won the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress. The film was also awarded with the Queer Palm Award at the festival, according to Wikipedia.

After watching the trailer, I want to see the film.

Thank you Accro for alerting me about it.

  1. Dear Stana,

Yes, the trailer was amazing. Netflix has no availability date for the DVD, but they do have it listed, and they allow you to select it for the SAVED (future release) queue.

    Love,

    Sheila.

  2. Dear Stana,

I actually saw the movie last night, at the movie theater, in one of the last place still showing it in Quebec.

I will not spoil the movie for you and everybody else reading this blog but let's just say I enjoyed it very much and everybody there seemed to also. I just want to mention that Laurence is the guy's name (not a spoiler) and that Laurence is a name used both for boys or girls. Just like my real name.

And that touched me very much.

I was born with a male body but mostly I feel that I am smack in the middle of the gender spectrum. And so I think that my name is very representative of that fact.

One funny fact : I dress as male but with nail polish (a strengthener and a light pink used as a base for French Manicure; it looks quite natural, but shiny; and yes, I wear that all the time), shaved legs, and shoes with pink highlights. No that's not the funny part; my feminine side is too strong for me to care about comments about that anyway... The point being : I did not even show my ticket to the guy taking care of those things! He kinda eyed me from head to toe and said : Cinema 7, left at the end of the corridor. So I went on right past him, laughing to myself.

    XoXoX

    Patricia
