Unsightly Hair
For some of us, body hair is a curse we have to live with. Yes, I know that some men have little or no body hair and some women have a lot of it. But speaking in generalities, women typically have less body hair than men.
Those of you who have followed my writings here know that I’ve covered various ways to get rid of unsightly hair. Many of you shave, pluck, epilate, use depilatories or undergo electrolysis. Some have even ventured into waxing.
Waxing
Today, I’m going to focus on waxing to get rid of unwanted hair. It’s something I recently started doing, and I’m pretty happy with the results.
I went into it feeling a bit apprehensive. It wouldn’t be cheap, and I knew there would be some pain involved. Still, I decided to begin by having my back waxed, just to see how effective it was. After doing that, I felt comfortable moving on to other parts of my body.
Perhaps I should begin by saying that, yes, waxing does hurt. Did you know that some parts of your body are more sensitive than others? After having pretty much every part of my body waxed, I’d probably rate the chest as the most sensitive. I haven’t done my lower torso, which I hear is really sensitive. And no, I haven’t had a bikini wax. My CD’ing doesn’t require that level of realism.
The waxing process is actually pretty simple and requires little effort on your part. The only preparation is to make sure the hair in the intended area is at least a quarter-inch long. That means you may need to stop shaving those areas for a week or more.
At the shop, the technician spreads a layer of warm wax over the area, lets it cool briefly and then grabs one end and quickly pulls it off, taking the hair with it. This is the point when you stifle your “Ouch!” As soon as the wax is removed, the pain is gone. Then the technician moves on to the next section.
The anticipation may be as bad as the actual sensation. Before finishing, the technician will inspect the treated area and perform any necessary touch-ups. Usually, some lotion is applied afterward, along with a suggestion about when you should return for another waxing. Don’t forget to leave a tip when you check out.
You’ll probably notice that the waxed area is a little red for a few hours. That’s normal.
I’ve found that waxing lasts about four weeks for me—sometimes more, sometimes less. That’s typical because your hair grows at different rates. After being waxed a few times, you may notice less hair growing in those areas. While you may never reach the point of having no hair at all, you’ll probably find that subsequent waxing sessions go more quickly and are less painful.
Where to Go
A quick Internet search will turn up plenty of waxing places near you. I’m not sure how I first became aware of the place I use. It was probably through an online advertisement. The shop is part of a national chain, which gives me some comfort because it follows established practices regarding cleanliness and technician training.
How do you know whether you’ll be welcome there as a CD? Unless you’re considering a bikini wax, that probably won’t be an issue. Waxing shops serve men all the time because plenty of guys simply don’t like the hairy look.
Go in your guy disguise and don’t worry about outing yourself. The technician will have worked on many men before and is unlikely to connect your waxing with CD’ing.
OK, so I’ve covered the agony. What about the ecstasy?
A small part of it is eliminating the need to shave your legs, arms, pits and other areas before getting dressed to go out. But the bigger part is the feeling you get the next time you dress and run your hand over those freshly waxed areas. You don’t feel the stubble that shaving leaves behind. You are smooth, and there is no unsightly hair.
