Progress

Got out Wednesday and wore my new plaid blazer dress fromVenus and new black “Sort” high heels from Nine West. I like it when I wear new, but it was cold and windy, so I topped my new outfit with my vintage white fake fur jacket from Fashion Bug (remember them?).

Met Diana and Sylvia for lunch at Viron Rondo Osteria in Cheshire, Connecticut. The place was packed – lots of people doing lunch to celebrate the holidays.

We three were seated at a table that could seat many more people and shortly after our food arrived, the manager came by and asked us if we would be willing to move to another table because she had erred and had a party of 19 lined up for our table. To entice us, she offered us free drinks and free desserts, so we happily took her up on her offer.

It was nice to be out en femme again.

After all these years going out among the civilians, I noticed something new during my recent outings. I no longer check to see if civilians are noticing me. That’s progress. (And it’s nice to know that at my age, I can still progress!)

  1. I love your photo! You are beautiful. You project an elegant, graceful femininity, but more importantly you project the confidence of someone presenting as their truest, most authentic self. Over the last few years, your example has helped me throw off the shackles of pants and show the world my embrace of the art form we call Femulation. Knowing there is someone out there living the things I had only dreamed of inspired me to find like-minded individuals who would support me in expressing my authentic self. A heartfelt “thank you” to you, Stana!

    2. I too have thrown off "trouser tyranny". I seldom wear them. I might from time to time wear trousers (pants) with my man's coat and tie outfit, but I will make two skirts to take the place of trousers when I wear the coat and tie outfit.
Now the mystery is, why so many women insist wearing trousers instead of dresses and skirts.
Stana, thanks for your contribution, along with skirtcafe.org, in giving me the courage to dump the exclusive wearing of trousers.

  2. What's the height on those new heels, Stana--because they make your legs look even more fab than usual!

  4. You no longer scan the place to see reactions. Good. I take that approach, too, but for a different reason.

I don't pass worth a damn, but when I head out, well,, I'm out there. I do my best to comport myself as a female, but what's the point of looking around? I'm there to have food (in this example) and that's what I'm going to do. What else am I going to do, run away like a scared rabbit? I've gone this far and I'm going to finish what I came for. Only then will I leave.

Every now and then someone in a restaurant will give me "snake eyes". My first step is to stare them down. Then I'll do that "lookin' at you" with two fingers. Only once did I invent a Plan C. I told the other ladies at the table about "Mr. Gawker", and when he shot his disapproving look again all the ladies (there were 6 or 7 of us) gave him the stare right back. Ooops, he spilled his drink. Ha! No more looks.
