Office Girl Review

I have been retired for five years. I don’t miss work much, but I do miss going to work as an office girl on Halloween.

I did it seven times. The first two times (2000 and 2003), the company sponsored a costume contest. (I won both times.) The last five times (2012 to 2016), there was no contest – I just used the holiday as an excuse to crossdress in public (among the civilians).

With only six weeks left to do your Halloween shopping, I decided to review my seven appearances at work as my real self. As a bonus, I also included my office girl appearances at the company Christmas parties in 2017 and 2018 (I was retired by then, but was invited back for the parties).

  1. Simply stunning Stana in your Halloween femulations. Twenty years ago that was an award winning costume presentation.
Today ? You have to appear like you are a contestant in RuPaul's Drag Race.
    The times.........they do change.

  3. I remember when Stana, would post her Halloween pictures each year I would look on in and be thinking how I wished I worked for a company like that, Eventually by putting together a little clues that Stana dropped in her writings I figured out that we did both work for the same company, she just worked in another office, we even knew some of the same people, what a small world. You look fantastic in all of these photos and you are an inspiration, I have to say my favorite might have been the second one you look just so happy and put together in that one Paula G

  4. Stana you look stunning in your office attire! It must have been an amazing feeling on those days being at the office as your authentic self.

I am semi-retired and my office days are behind me but I LOVE dressing in office attire and am a big fan of skirt suits. My wife says, at home I am the best dressed IT lady. =)

  7. I do love the 2003 look with the elegant suit, the black stockings, the lace trimmed neckline and especially the matching nail polish and lipstick. It’s an beautiful balance of business-like and devistatingly feminine. But the 2015 look really captures my heart. The soft print dress with its swingy skirt and flattering bodice, the perfectly coordinated heels and the elegant makeup are just perfect for the office. The topper for me are the pictures your colleague took of you in her doorway that day. The one where your colleague is looking down at your skirt and heels with the look on her face that says” my god, he seriously looks beautiful” is the best of all.
Back in the 90’s when I was in my 20’s, I worked at a shelter for homeless kids. The staff wore costumes on Halloween and when I showed up in my office girl look, it was the first time I had left the house in my feminine finery. It was a floral print midi skirt and a ruffled red satin blouse worn with crude makeup. I had a beard and longish hair so I was the “sideshow bearded lady”. I got up the courage to buy my first heels at Payless and wore them with black pantyhose over unshaven legs. One of my colleagues asked if I would be returning the shoes to Payless the next day. I said no, the soles were scuffed now, so I’d keep them. I’m sure she took that to mean that yes, I did enjoy wearing those clothes. It took another 25 years to really let go of the idea that I cared what people think of me, but that might have been the first inkling if it.

    1. 2015 is my favorite, too. IMHO I looked so well put together that day.

  8. I like your 2017 picture. It really captures the spirit of the season. How are you doing now, after the tumble? Get well soon, Stana. Hugs, Kathi

    1. I'm healing fast. Black eyes and a scabby knee are the only remaining signs of my tumble. Thank you for asking, Kathi.

  9. I'm looking forward to my sixth Halloween dressed up at work. Last year was a bust, no pun intended...Someone cast a wet blanket on the festivities two days before our hallowed day and said that there would be no dressing for Halloween. My egocentric fear is that our office's boss lady had heard through the grapevine that I was planning a Marilyn Monroe inspired outfit after 2020's 50's inspired look.

This year, we've already been told that "tasteful" costumes and decorations will be permitted. I've always been within the office dress code when at work, even on Halloween. Never anything too revealing, nothing too short, nylons on every appearance except the first year. I had a new pair and must have bought them a size or two too small and I shredded them as I was putting them on.

I have already bought a dress that I intend to wear. I wore it on the day my kids and I drove to Reno. It's blue with white polka-dots and it really looks great on me...
I haven't divulged what my look will be to the coworkers but have stated that it will be "va-va-voom."

And yes, I'm planning on doing all my normal things while dressed. I'll be voting in the mid-term election, hoping to get my annual flu shot and looking to get boosted to number 4.

    Heather.

  10. I like the first picture the most, but you're stunning in all of them. Halloween was the first time I actually left my home with the intention of mingling with fellow humans. Halloween was also the first time I bought wigs and size 13 heels in person. A victim of negativity of the 1960's and 1970's I doubt if I will ever try to mingle with humans other than on Halloween. Born five decades too early.
