Woodstock

Fifty years ago, I convinced two friends to take a short drive with me to upstate New York to attend a rock concert. That rock concert was called "Woodstock" and the rest is history.

I took my Kodak Super 8 movie camera along for the ride and shot a roll of film. Actually, I only shot a half roll of film that weekend, but about six weeks later, I made the trip a second time and shot the rest of the roll.

After the film was developed, I cut and spliced the film to compare scenes of Woodstock during and six weeks after the event.

I recently digitized the film and uploaded it to YouTube where you can see for yourself what I saw at Yasgur's farm in 1969.

Enjoy!

    1. I saw the Saturday line-up, but came down with flu-like symptoms and missed the Sunday show. So I saw The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, Grateful Dead, John Sebastian, Mountain, Canned Heat and Country Joe McDonald. I was very ill for about five days after returning home.

  3. Ms.Stana: I just started following your blog after being absent for quite a while, I believed a little over 2.5 years ago. I remember you had just retired and were in the process of starting a new job femulating as a salesperson and I believe that you were considering femulating 24/7/365. Would you please give me a quick summary update from then to now on where you are at femulating etc.??? Also I was wondering if we can still send you femulated picture(s) and our brief femulation story??? I love you Ms. Stana and you inspire me everyday to continue femulating no matter what. You Go Girl!!! Oh last thing I hope this will inspire you-Your future success is hidden in your daily habits!!! You can never lose if you don't give up/quit and failure is only temporary not final if you keep trying!!! You can do and be whatever you desire in this world if you consistently in these things:
All you can do is all you can do and all you can do is good enough!!!
No one can ever completely stop you from doing anything if you are determined enough to keep trying when you fail then keep going where you succeed and never ever quit!!! Yessssssssss!!!! LOVE YA, Ms.Stacey Anne Smith.

    1. The Dress Barn store where I applied for work was downsizing, so I did not get a job as a saleswoman. Turns out that the whole chain is now going out of business. Actually, I am enjoying retirement so much that I am not excited about working again, but I am considering volunteering a day or two a week.

Please do send me photos and stories for possible publication here.

  5. I have some friends that actually went to Woodstock. They didn't film it, but they took lots of photos. If everybody who says they went actually was there, the attendance would have been about 2 million! I highly recommend "Woodstock, Three Days That Defined a Generation". We saw it in June at my film screening group, Cinema Sunday at the Charles. The audience uniformly loved it. The film deals with the actual festival from the original idea to the final product with the actual music being a small part of it.It's currently screening on the PBS American Experience website https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/woodstock/

Ang Lee did a lovely film in 2009 called "Taking Woodstock", which is also about putting the festival together. One of the featured actors, Liev Schreiber, plays a transgender woman who does security for the organizers.
