Acceptance and Rejection

At the 2015 Transgender Lives Conference
There are two conferences in the Spring that I try to attend and present at: True Colors Conference and Transgender Lives Conference.

There was a call for workshops at these conferences in the fall and I submitted proposals to both. My proposed workshops were basically the same for both conferences.

True Colors Conference accepted my workshop proposal soon after the deadline for workshop submissions had passed.

Transgender Lives Conference rejected my proposal long after the deadline had passed. The reason given for rejection was that my workshop “didn't fit in with health and law.”

Last year, my workshop didn’t fit in with health and law, but it was accepted. A good time was had by those who attended and the workshop “got good reviews.”

Needless to say, I am upset and very disappointed and I will not attend the conference.

  1. Dear Stana,

I'm sorry for your disappointment. It's Transgender Lives Conference's loss. As you know, your Fantasia Fair friend, Jan, gave my Orlando area support group the presentation you and she had prepared for last year's Fantasia Fair. I, and all my sisters, enjoyed the presentation very much. You certainly would be very welcome to attend one of our meetings and present, if you ever get to the Orlando / Disney / Universal Studios / Sea World area. Our meetings are the first Saturday of each month. You have my email address, so you can always contact me privately. Selfishly, I have wanted to meet you for years. I hope we do meet someday.

    1. There is a ham radio conference in St. Pete in September that I may attend.

  2. I agree with Sheila. Their loss. Keep your chin up.

    1. Thanks, Pat. The initial shock has worn off and I am moving on.

  3. Stana, we are just beginners here at Trans Ohio-but I'm sure they would LOVE to have you. That is so ridiculous.

  4. Liz said I was rude for not offering you one of America's best burgers at Thurmans and a Chocolate Martini to die for from Club Diversity :)

  5. I had the exact opposite problem. A friend and I were putting together a seminar on balancing gender and marriage for presentation at Southern Comfort the following year. The track chair overseeing seminars for that year heard about it and asked if we could present that year due to a cancellation. So we ended up with three days notice to do the seminar.
