That’s hard to say. It’s obvious when a girl changes her first name—after all, not many boys are named Marybeth by their parents—but it’s not obvious whether she has changed her last name, too, unless the last name is so obviously not their real last name as in Candy Kane, for example.
So who knows for sure?

I can only speak/comment for myself and the other femulators I know and hang out with, but within that group the vast majority of them have chosen both a different first AND last name to go by when in "girl mode". In my case specifically, girl mode even has her own middle name, too.
ReplyDeleteWell, at first, I was scared to have any name associating my Amy-self with my male self, so I used my maternal grandmother's maiden name, and was "Amy Tapie" for years. When I transitioned and officially changed my name, though, I resumed using my original last name, symbolizing the reunion of my two selves into a whole.

ReplyDeleteIt’s not completely meaningless as I use my grandmother’s maiden name.
So I go by Sarah-Louise Brown, and initials of SLB flow better I think?

Since my Family Name is unique (there are only 3 of us currently in existence) I HAD to change Julie's Family Name to avoid any unwanted attention.
ReplyDeleteIt all happened on Julie's first outing - Dragstrip 66 in LA on Valentines Day 1998. I took on a name inspired by my first crush, Julie Newmar. That night I was "Julie New-Ma'am". When I decided to make it sort of official, I chose a surname using the first syllable of my Family Name - thus was born Julie Shaw.
The rest is "her-story". (giggle)
What's in a last name? I went with the obvious - "Feminine' because it describes how I feel and act when I wear lingerie, stockings, high heels, jewelry, makeup, long polished nails, perfume, a wig, hair bows, and every feminine accessory possible. I also used it because it's unique, I have yet to meet anyone of any gender with my crossdressing last name. I think it goes well with 'Tami,' but considered using 'Sissy,' 'Daisy,; and 'Suzette' as first names, but didn't want to overplay it.

DeleteI change my last name too, in particular for social network activity: if some friends of my male self get the "you may know also" advice for my female self, I hope in this way they don't pay too much attention

ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS have the same first, middle, and last names whether I am in girl mode (most of the time) and boy mode (once in a blue moon).
ReplyDeleteI DESPERATELY need to shed the kilos/pounds so I don't wind up looking like Henri. So, early in the morning I get up to go for walks before the weather gets more unbearable, as I live in the DFW area of Texas.

My femme first name was suggested to me by my wife when I came out to her. And since I loved Captain Janeway of Star Trek Voyager, I chose to spell it after the Captain. My middle name, Lynn, is an homage to my wife's middle name, Linda. My surname is my male middle name with an added "s". Ironically, my femme initials are ananagram of my male name.
ReplyDeleteI use a different last name since my last name includes a crude slang word in it referencing male anatomy. I have always felt sorry for my daughters having to put up with sophomoric humor at their expense. I recall calling the father of one of my daughter's classmates (male) when I found out about a crude comment his son had made to her in school about her last name. They got to change their last name when they got married.
