Breaking News!

I’m home with a new knee. Two hours of surgery Monday morning – they had me up and walking around Monday evening. Have a cane and walker for assistance if need be.

So far, there has been very little pain from the surgery. That is very surprising considering some of the horror stories I heard about knee replacement surgery. But who knows, the worst may still be in the future (hope not).

Thank you all for the positive thoughts. I am sure they helped and I know that they helped me mentally.

And so it goes.

  1. Stana, the worst is over. Likely some soreness in rehab, but it will be the I-just-went-to-the-gym soreness, not the live with it all day long type.

  4. WoW... they don't muck around.
Hope the rest of the rehab goes well and you don't need the walker or cane for long. Heels and a cane Hmmm, an interesting combination.

  8. Home is the best place to recover, be a good patient, do as you are told, and you'll back in your heels in no time.

  9. Wonderful! Trust the rehab and you'll be walking in heels in (almost) no time!

  10. So happy for you, Sweetie.
A friend of mine had hip replacement surgery and it was treated as out patient. He was walking with a cane within 24 hours. It's amazing what they're doing these days.

  11. I am so happy the surgery went well. I have been in rehab with a bad shoulder the past couple of months. I asked a lady about her knee replacement and she replied that she only wished she had not waited so long. You will have you girlish gait back in no time at all.

  12. Good news about your knee, Hon'! Your experience so far mirrors what I wrote you about my neighbor having both hips done at the same time, followed by just three weeks of rehab with a PT and then being released! It took me months to recover from just one hip replacement 16 years ago. I think too many people avoided knee replacement (including some of my friends) because of the pain, so the docs had to respond to this issue. You appear to be a recipient of this improved technology. Here's hoping we'll see you back in your beloved heels very soon!

  13. I'm glad all went well for you! while you were in the hospital, I was there as well, unfortunately the foot surgery was to remove the big toe on left foot due to diabetic complications! slowly getting caught up on what I missed.

  15. Make sure you have a good walker! My first one had the crappy little plastic wheels that felt every single bump and crack.

My second walker was a fancy one with large rubber wheels, brakes, a seat, etc. soooo much nicer.

    1. Thank you for the advice. I did get a good walker, but only used it for one day after my physical therapist (pt) said that I had progressed beyond a walker and could use a cane. Three weeks in now and I only use a cane going up/down stairs or going outdoors. So we are progressing rapidly.
