Trump Bans Most Transgenders from Serving in Military

Trump's War on Transgenders Continues

(CNN) The White House on Friday announced a policy to ban most transgender persons from serving in the US military.

Following a long review of a policy following a tweet by President Donald Trump last year, the White House said the policy will say "transgender persons with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria -- individuals who the policies state may require substantial medical treatment, including medications and surgery -- are disqualified from military service except under certain limited circumstances."

  1. Mike Pence -

Helping to make America great again. One problem, his puppet, Donald Trump, gets the blame for ideas coming from his puppet masters - Pence and Putin.

Given Trump's pattern of doing something stupid on a Friday night to distract from something more serious that he doesn't want people to notice, the question is: What doesn't he want us to see? Trust the military to slow walk this policy, as it is loyal to its own. But even they have to follow orders, no matter how corrupt they are. I am worried about the logical extension of this attitude, when, after great violations of human rights, someone says: "I was just following orders." (Use a German accent for that last phrase to get my drift.)

  2. Hopefully this last ridiculous rump policy will not withstand the challenge within the courts and the military will continue to ignore him. So tired of being his scapegoat! You are right Marian!

  3. I think the key is in the last three lines
The military do not want to pick up the bills for surgery or medication

    1. If the military can afford to spend $84 million a year on medication for erectile dysfunction...

If taxpayers can afford to pay $59.9 million (and counting) just for Trumps trips to Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster...

If taxpayers can afford to pay for all of Trump's cabinet picks flying first class, when they aren't chartering private jets...

and on, and on, and on...

...then I think we as a country can afford to pony up the comparatively reasonable amount of an estimated $2.4 to $8.4 million a year to see to the medically-necessary treatment of trans men and women who volunteered to bravely defend this country, including sacrificing their own lives if need be (service which Trump himself received 5 deferments to avoid). And the military's own RAND study determined trans troops were fit to serve and would have no significant cost or noticeable detriment to the service.

This isn't about military readiness or fitness. It isn't about the financial cost. It's about Trump attempting to soothe his bruised narcissistic ego and throwing some red meat to people who hate trans people.

  4. As someone who served with a top secret/crypto clearance and who maintained electronic countermeasures equipment that helped keep aviators alive, I can't express how angry this makes me without resorting to profanity. Let me just say I don't like his horse either.
