Occasionally, a male singer will imitate a female singer and the femulations are usually pretty good. It helps to have a television show’s costume and makeup department behind your femulation and some of the femulations are absolutely amazing!
My friend Clive of A Gender Fluid Life fame, has collected all of the femulations that appeared on Sounds Familiar this past year. It is quite a collection. The femulations that you post from that show are always amazing!! Oh, to have a professional makeup and wardrobe crew haha.

Do they screen in singers before they assign roles? So many of the men look so good, it is hard to believe they were not chosen because the show knew they could make THIS man look femme, but not THAT one.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a mystery, and may vary from country to country (a producer's choice). I think it's quite possible that someone has an eye for what look a particular contestant may be able to take on, but some would be more challenging for the stylist teams, I would imagine.
DeleteOne other quick thought - I think Croatia's version of the show may choose roles to be performed randomly, as most of the participants seem to be selected for as many female as male roles in a series; in other countries, there may be just one or two gender changes required.
DeleteI'm always jealous, or is it envious, of the male actors and singers that get to have the talents of the professional makeup artists and wardrobe folks perfect their looks. Wish they could work on me!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stana for always giving 'Yor Face' a good mention. I confess that I'm often in awe of the creations of this particular show. The femulations are consistently very good, and all of the contestants (mainly singers and actors) seem to take every challenge in their stride. The series used to air in more countries than it does now, but is still going strong in at least half a dozen. 2026 will doubtless bring many more femulations to delight and amaze!
