The ACA was a half measure, a...I agree completely. The ACA was a half measure, and because of that, it has been less than successful. It would have been much more preferable to establish completely government funded healthcare or to leave the system the way it was.

While I agree that President Obama isn't completely responsible, you have to assign some of the blame to him. He was the driving force behind the bill, and it was pushed through before it was workable (so that he and Democratic leaders could have a feather in their collective cap).

The ACA represents a fundamental misunderstanding of basic economics. Force insurance companies to cover preexisting conditions (increasing cost), and it's only logical that they'll raise premiums across the board. Like you said, they're in business to make profit, and they're not going to surrender any of that profit if they can find any conceivable way out of it. If you and I understand that, the government ought to as well, and they should plan their policies to work within the system. That, or create a policy that circumvents that system (like federally funded health care).

But that's just my two cents. I don't fancy myself an expert in economics or our political system. I'm sure there are obstacles that I'm completely unaware of. Either way, the current system (the ACA) doesn't work for me, and I'm frustrated with our leaders because of it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3372432081562643074.post-25085477716569013042016-11-10T10:32:45.848-05:002016-11-10T10:32:45.848-05:00As President Obama said, "The sun came up thi...As President Obama said, "The sun came up this morning and nothing has changed"(I paraphrased). Fast forward eight years...and it didn't happen! So the system worked...

While I am certainly no fan of Trump, neither is the Republican establishment. Before my employer offered healthcare kicked in, I bought coverage for my spouse and myself through the marketplace. While covered, my spouse twice went to an ER for a very high fever. The hospital is "in network" but the doctors are not. I was not informed of this before check in nor would I have driven to the next nearest hospital which is an hour away. Now, we're making payments on non covered bills for $2000 because two doctors spent a total of about 15 minutes combined with my spouse. Mr. Obama isn't responsible for this. The system is responsible for this. We have a capitalist society, everything needs to be profitable but screw the little guys.Heather D.
