Stuff 136: Sharing

By JJ Atwell

I’m Not an Expert

I’ve said this before, but it’s probably time to repeat myself: I don’t claim to be an expert on anything CD-related. I have no special training in any of the related disciplines that would qualify me as an expert. So why do I write Stuff? Because I enjoy sharing—and because writing is a bit therapeutic for me.

All I have to offer are my own experiences and a little research. I’ve now been sharing my Stuff with you for more than three years. Some of you may be tired of reading posts in which I repeat certain themes. Still, I revisit those themes in the hope that something I write will help other CDs come to terms with—and enjoy—this experience.

Finally, I should emphasize that I write from my perspective as a crossdresser. I’m not trans, and I have no desire to transition. I know I’m a guy, and my everyday life is a guy’s life. I enjoy the occasional foray into a woman’s world, but I know I’m only visiting. That perspective may or may not apply to you, so please keep it in mind as you read my thoughts.

With that said, let’s move on to some odds and ends.

Be Happy

I hope dressing is a fun experience for you. Does getting dressed make you happy, or does it cause you stress?

Chronic stress can affect both our physical and emotional health in many ways. You can ask your online assistant to explain some of those effects or, if you have specific health concerns, consult a medical professional. Generally speaking, stress is something we should try to avoid—or at least minimize—in our lives.

Happiness can also influence our health. Although the connection is complex, people who feel emotionally well may be more inclined to exercise, sleep properly and take better care of themselves. In that sense, happiness can be a form of self-help.

Both happiness and stress can be influenced by how you approach dressing. If you can enjoy getting dressed, it may put a smile on your face and give you a more positive outlook on the world. I often read that many of us use dressing as a way to relieve stress. It can help us feel more comfortable and secure. The more you believe in yourself—whatever your guise—the happier you are likely to be

Ebb and Flow

How many of you find that your urge to dress ebbs and flows? I would guess just about everyone. I know it certainly happens to me.

From time to time, I’ve even passed up a rare opportunity to dress simply because I wasn’t in the mood. Hmmm—might that mean something? Is the urge fading with age? No, that can’t be the answer because I’m feeling the urge right now!

Perhaps getting dressed sometimes seems like too much trouble for too little payoff. I suppose it depends on the level of dressing involved. Am I merely putting on foundation garments and throwing something over them, or am I going all out to create a convincing feminine presentation?

For me, spending two and a half hours achieving a look that is good enough for going out in public is a lot of work if I must take it all off 30 minutes later. On the other hand, if I’m staying home, spending 15 minutes putting on my shapewear seems like a fair trade for half an hour of being dressed.

Does that sound familiar? I’d love to hear what determines whether dressing is worth the effort for you.

I’ll Be Back

I’ll keep finding more Stuff to write about. Meanwhile, I welcome your comments and suggestions here on Stana’s page or by email at Jenn6nov at-sign gmail dot com.

  2. Morning JJ - interesting question you raise about 'ebb & flow' & what determines whether to make the effort to dress. Maybe it's my personal circumstances being only able to dress when I am at my Mother-in_law's so therefore not presenting the opportunity each day. I therefore always make the effort. In fact my Mother-in-Law expects nothing else as our relationship is based upon me being feminine.. This has been the case for the past 11 years now. So I ponder your question as if I was living at my Mother-in_law's full time. Would I dress everyday ? I concluded that I would to please her. So if in her absence I conclude that I my drive to dress is to please someone else which is definitely not how it was at the beginning & for many years before my Mother-in_law feminized me. Thought provoking.....❤

    1. Emma, I'm happy that my musings have given you something to think about. You live in an interesting situation and I have no idea how I would handle the same circumstances. Something to think about! JJ

  3. Hi JJ, I like reading all of your "stuff" articles, and I especially enjoy how they frequently spark conversation between the Femulate readers. Looking forward to more!

  4. Even if I only have limited alone time, I'll always slip into panties and hose. Just that brief silky caress of hosiery seems to soften my mood and fill me with joy.

It's a chilly morning today in the northeast, so a few hours in black tights with a hot coffee is like a warm hug:)

    1. Elise, that sounds like a wonderful way to spend the morning. It's cooler here but still in the 70's so I guess I'd have to set the AC to something really chilly to emulate your outfit. :) JJ

  6. Once again, you pose interesting thoughts, JJ. In the past, I felt the ebb and flow. However, since coming out in 2019, being Kathryn has become a daily thing. I don't glam up every day but I live in the knowledge that Kathryn is the major part of me. I sometimes think if I had come out years ago, I most likely would have transitioned. And as a side note, since I know you personally, I appreciate your hard work of dressing and making up every time we get together. Keep these Stuff coming!

    1. oh it's a very long tale & perhaps not one for this forum given what transpired. I am not unhappy to share privately if anybody does wish to contact me via email . (Stana/JJ - I hope this is acceptable ?)

    2. Stana is the sole gatekeeper here on Femulate. If something is acceptable is up to her. I'd suggest that Emma, if she is interested, write up an account and send it in to Stana. All she can do is say no if it doesn't fit. JJ

  8. Sometimes one has to play the hand that is dealt. My wife and I are in a deep "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" marriage which precludes outward displays of femininity. Fortunately, for medical and comfort reasons we sleep apart. Many times I will shave off the facial hair so my hands, when brushing against my cheeks and chin do not feel any stubble. Every night I take the hand that is dealt and sleep in a nightgown with a bra and panty, and, often adding a full slip. Staying away from a mirror helps the mindset. When my wife stays over at our daughter's abode, then I get the chance to do the entire deal.
