One day last week, the disc jockey on a local FM oldies station asked listeners to call in and name the first record, LP or 45, they ever purchased.
Listening to their responses was a trip down memory lane. Many of their “firsts” were records that I had also purchased.
For the record, the first 45 I ever bought was “Quarter to Three” by Gary U.S. Bonds.
My first LP purchase was “Beach Boys Concert.”
That got me thinking about some of the other firsts in my life—like my first car, a 1972 Buick Opel 1900.
And my crossdressing firsts—like the first dress that I actually purchased rather than borrowed.
Or my first wig, which came from Frederick’s of Hollywood instead of my sister’s closet.
Those were just a few of my firsts.
And so it goes.

I had the Beach Boys album and the matching shirt. I don't remember my first 45, but my first 78 was yellow, had 4 songs and I believe the theme from Old Yeller. My first car was a '69 Comet. Randi
ReplyDeleteMy first record was "Big Bad John", my first album was Dean Martin's "Everybody loves somebody sometimes". The first car was 1964 Nash Rambler. First dress and wig were from Frederick's of Hollywood.

ReplyDeleteMy first music purchases were cassettes with my first paycheck from Wanamaker's department store. My first pantyhose purchase were NoNonsense from Kmart. I'm trying for the life of me to tremendously the first heels I purchased. I know they were black and I'm sure it was a low heel (which most likely felt high at the time!)
ReplyDeleteFirst LP, The Planets, Holst. First car, Hillman Imp. First bra bought in Woolworths NY, first dress, Lands End mail order. First time truly out; dog walking in a local park with coffeein café. My underwear and shoes, her sweater, skirt and coat;wig, I think from her mother.
ReplyDeleteMy first 45 was Day Tripper and my first LP was Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club band. My first dress was bought about 12 years later at a wonderful 2nd hand store that welcomed girls like us. In was a navy shirtwaist dress with half dollar sized white polka dots. I wore a slip and pantyhose underneath. Fun!
