Is There Any Such Thing?
I’m sure we all agree that women (GGs) take longer to get dressed to go out than guys do. I think there is a corollary that crossdressers take longer than GGs to get dressed. No doubt that’s because of all the extra work that goes into camouflaging our male tells.
Today I’m wondering how long it takes to get dressed when going out. As I was recently getting ready for a GNO with some friends, it occurred to me that I’m getting faster making the transition from guy mode to girl mode. It used to take three hours and I’ve now got it down to a bit more than two hours. Practice seems to have helped. But that’s still a long time to spend getting ready.
In fear of boring you to death talking about something you are all probably familiar with, I’ll go ahead and tick off how I do it.
- First comes deciding what the outfit of the day will be. Actually, that’s something I’ve probably pondered for a week before my outing. On the actual day, it’s more about getting everything laid out. So that’s probably five minutes.
- Jump in the shower for a thorough cleanup including shaving the face very closely and denuding any other areas where hair shouldn’t show. I tend to spend a lot of time in the shower, say 10 to 15 minutes. After the shower, I’ll need to cool off a while before moving on.
- Getting into shapewear is fairly easy. Pull on the padded bottoms. Add the bra and breast forms and throw a robe over everything before proceeding to makeup. I’d say five minutes or less. But if I’m glueing the breast forms on that day, it does take a bit longer.
- Now its time for makeup. That’s a process that I’m the least proficient in and it takes me at least 15 minutes to be satisfied with the look.
- At this point I put on the rest of the outfit. I find it easy to do that before adding the wig and accessories. So, only a couple of minutes here. Unless I decide that the outfit just doesn’t work in which case add another 15 minutes deciding on an alternative. Yes, that happens.
- Hair goes pretty quickly. A brush out of the wig and getting it positioned correctly. Then some more brushing so it hangs right. Say less than five minutes.
- Time to put on accessories, pack the handbag and lastly apply press-on nails. Probably ten minutes for this part of the process.
- Time to look in the mirror and refine the overall look, add hairspray and my favorite scent.
Whew, just typing all that makes me tired. But also excited that I’ve achieved a good look for the evening. Does this pretty much align with your experience?
Deconstructing
As with many things, undoing it all is actually a fairly quick process. At the end of the night, it’s time to strip off all that stuff.
Usually the wig and shoes are the first to be removed. Then the outer clothing is returned to their hangers or tossed into the laundry hamper.
At this point, I put my robe on while still in my shapewear so I can prolong the illusion a bit, and work on removing my makeup. That’s actually a quick process with a good makeup remover; it only takes a minute or two. Then I do a final face wash, moisturize and the guy is back. At least the head is.
Lastly the shapewear comes off and it’s time to hit the bed. I usually leave the final cleanup and storage of the clothing and accessories until the next morning. So it’s only about 15 minutes that night.
How does that all stack up with the way you do it? Got any suggestions that would help me speed up the routine? I’d love to hear them.

It only takes you two hours to transform? That's nothing! I can't dress at home, so that adds a lot of time. I have to drive to a house where I rent a room with another CD, then pack up the clothes I store there, travel to a CD dressing service, and then go through all the steps you described, except that the makeup artists I go to usually take anywhere from an hour to two hours to get me looking like a perfect lady - or as close to that as possible. Once properly dressed I like to do my favorite girly activity - go to a salon for a manicure for long painted nails, and if I am wearing open toed heels, then a mani-pedi. All those steps could total 4 to 5 hours, sometimes more, but it's always worth it! The entire getting dolled up process is actually my favorite part of crossdressing, so the longer it takes the better. I have also been transformed in a 'regular' salon, and that is the best possible full feminine experience, but that adds even more time. Many girls will spend the better part of a day getting fully ready for a big night, it seems to me that us crossdressers might want to experience that full feminization routine.
ReplyDeleteWow Tami - that is some process to go through to dress! Great that you can get a mani-pedi while dressed. Fun. JJ
DeleteI used to be ready for work in less than an hour. Including shower and shaving. I worked as a woman for 15 years. Never fully transitioned.

Less than an hour Donna! Wow! JJ
Deletehow long it takes me to dress depends totally upon how indecisive i am at the time. i will have given a lot of thought beforehand when i first knew of the next opportunity was going to present itself but as soon as i open my mother-in-law wardrobe & confronted by a selection of skirts, blouses, dresses & skirt suits my mind goes into overdrive šš i can change several times before i find ‘that look’. when my mother-in-law is around to help things are different. the outfit is chosen quickly but the whole process still takes time as we often find we ‘get distracted‘ šš either way its time well spent to become the woman that i am. just typing this makes me so excited about my next opportunity to dress later today ❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI understand Emma! I usually think about my outfit several weeks before my next outing. But I'm horribly indecisive about that and most likely don't finally decide until it's time to get dressed. JJ
Deletei’ll be honest. when i hav3 an absolute array of silk blouses in front of me my brain just turn# to mush with the choice. my mother- in-law has over 30.. so many styles & colours. how can a girl be expected to no dither ššš
DeleteI've got it down to 1 hour - that's from start to walking out the door. Of course, I have decided on the wardrobe a day or so in advance, so that cuts out a LOT of prep time. (giggle)
ReplyDeleteGood work Julie! I've got a long way to go before I can get it down to that little time. JJ
Delete60 minutes on a good day. 90 minutes on a not-so-good day.
ReplyDeleteYou've had a lot of practice Stana! JJ
DeleteIt's a lot easier if you go full time as I do. Thanks to estrogen and heredity, I don't need breast forms as my natural cup size is DD. I don't need glue on nails as I have my nails painted. I don't need wigs as my natural hair is beyond shoulder length. Overwhelming so, I wear dresses.
ReplyDeleteI have the appearance of a woman but with a deep voice of a man.
John
Getting dressed in my favourite part of the experience. It will always take at least 2hours and as I always go out with my SO we get dressed together and she does my make up. We usual have snacks and drinks whilst we get ready and photos as the outfit comes together.

Just a quick note to say that I thought the sign on the bedroom wall of the lovely lady in black was going to say "Life is short, but you're heels shouldn't be!"
ReplyDeleteUsually 2 hours from waking to leaving the door. Clothes set out previous night, although there are often last minute changes. Shaving delays when blood appears. When arriving home later, deconstruction is delayed as long as possible in order to savour the euphoria as long as possible. Beard fuzz spoils the day around 12 hours later.
ReplyDeleteI am that guy who always presents male. I put my clothes in a backpack in the trunk of my car. Some days, for lunch or for a errand, I will either change clothes in the car, or take the backpack into an office building's bathroom, etc. and change clothes. I sometimes grumble at having to take 10-15 minutes to find a place to change and to change into and later out of my outfit. Seeing all of these change-up times y'all are posting has reminded me to count my blessings!
