My interest in rock music was kindled by The Beach Boys’ surfing music and the person most responsible for that music, Brian Wilson, died today.
Bummer!
I am very sad about Brian’s death, but on a positive note, he will be rejoining his brothers in heaven.
So be it.

an erratic genius with a great deal of problems. But a genius. But it makes Wilson Phillips "Flesh and Blood" one of the saddest songs out there
ReplyDeleteJJ here: I was also a Beach Boy fan, growing up with them as my musical taste developed. Brian was such a tremendous force for the development of his genre. Thank goodness that he leaves behind such a huge catalog of his work. I actually bought the expanded version of Pet Sounds when I heard of his passing. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert in 2016 and do a meet & greet. Such an amazing experience. RIP Brian
ReplyDeleteI was crushed by the news of Brian Wilson's death. Like you, Stana, I have tons of music on my computer and other media... ranging from Mozart to hip hop. Unfortunately, as time goes by, we are going to lose more of our musical heroes. Rest well, Brian! 💔
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Dennis was the only surfer. He’s the one that drowned. I played the 45 of Help Me Rhonda till it wore out! I seen the Beatles in person but they weren’t as great as The Beach Boys. RIP Wilson brothers. Your music will go on!!
ReplyDeleteI was seven years old first time I heard " Surfin USA" and it totally changed my life. For the next seven years I drove every one that was basically in my circle crazy. I even was offered a job at the local 50s and 60s AM radio station at fifteen because of my strong suggestion to the general manager to play more of the beach boys. He liked the sound of my voice and was impressed by my knowledge of the eras songs, bands, chart position ( this was 1985) etc.
ReplyDeleteI wrote my English Comp paper last year of Jr high on Brian Wilson. The beach boys have had such a huge and positive influence on my life and most of that is thanks to Brian. I grew up in rural, landlocked Oklahoma out in BFE and would long to be in town where I thought the action was. I could always put on my walkman headphones and listen to any beach boys album and immediately be transported to a different place in time where it was fast cars, pretty girls ,always sunny, always summer, and the surf was always up. Thank you Brian, your music has touched my soul and may now God bless and keep yours.
